While serious injuries were not involved, a crash between a dump truck and semi on Interstate 10 near Holt closed the eastbound lanes of the highway for more than two hours early Thursday morning, according to a news release from Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP reported that a dump truck driven by Jim Mitchell, 32, of Holt, was traveling in the outside lane of I-10 in a work zone lane closure area at 2:10 a.m. Another truck, a tractor trailer driven by Gerald McKinney, 59, of Binbrook, Ontario, Canada, was also traveling east on the highway and struck the dump truck in the rear when it made a sudden lane change in front of the semi near mile marker 46.
The drivers suffered minor injuries and were treated and later released at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview. Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office reported that the eastbound lanes of I-10 were closed until 4:49 a.m. following the accident.
Mitchell was charged with violation of right of way, according to the FHP release.
