FORT WALTON BEACH — Papa Murphy’s Take n’ Bake Pizza in the Uptown Corners shopping center has closed.
The store had been emptied out and its sign had been taken down Wednesday morning. A phone number listed for the restaurant had been disconnected. The store’s listing on Google marked it as “permanently closed.”
Papa Murphy’s opened at Uptown Corners at 98 Eglin Parkway N.E. in October 2010. Other Papa Murphy’s in the area are at 1142 John Sims Parkway in Niceville and 2670 S. Ferdon Blvd. in Crestview.
Eppie Azzaretto with the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce said it was “news to me.”
Heidi LoCicero, spokeswoman for Forty-Four Investments LLC, which owns Uptown Corners, said they did not have advance notice of Papa Murphy’s closing.
“They moved out on Saturday… They were a tenant in good standing. They had paid their rent up through the month and had recently re-negotiated a five-year lease,” LoCicero said. “It’s our understanding that a family member was running the business for the parents and they decided they were going to close the business. We reached out to them and haven’t heard back as of yet.”
A corporate spokesperson for Papa Murphy’s, based in Vancouver, Washington, confirmed the restaurant closed Mmarch 31.
“It is always sad news when a franchise owner decides to close their doors,” the spokesperson said via email. “It’s a tough decision, both personally and professionally, for them.”
