SANTA ROSA BEACH — Some South Walton County beachgoers were treated to the sight of a young man carrying a cross down the beach on Good Friday.

The man, who said “God Bless” when he met people, was seen at Ed Walline Park about 12:30 p.m.

David Vaughan, who heads up South Walton’s beach safety division, said his lifeguards had not seen the man.

“I feel so blessed to live here and witness an extraordinarily act of sacrifice from a young man,” said Dana Angelle Berryman, who captured his walk on camera and sent it to the Daily News.

“It’s a beautiful reminder of how much God loves us,” she added. “It helps us to remember Easter is not about the candy but about our Savior rising again. This image will stay with me forever.”
