High-speed chase, crash, manhunt land two in jail

The occupants of the car were wanted for theft.

Staff Report

On Friday, Florida Highway Patrol troopers observed a 2000 Infinity traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on State Road 79 in Bay County. Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but that wasn’t possible due to traffic conditions and the driver’s reckless operation of the car.

The Infinity continued northbound and turned onto County Road 388, where it eventually crashed. Troopers arrived on scene and all three occupants attempted to flee. One passenger was apprehended near the crash site.

Bay County K-9 and Panama City Beach Police Department arrived on scene to assist with the manhunt for the other occupants of the vehicle. After a short manhunt they were apprehended.

During the course of the crash investigation it was determined that the three occupants were wanted for a theft at Pier Park. Two occupants of the vehicle were arrested and booked into the Bay County Jail.

The Panama City Beach Police Department charged two occupants with felony theft, Devrick J. Byrd, 23, of Monticello, and Carlosher Martina Johnson, 18, of Tallahassee.

Byrd, who was driving the Infinity, also was charged for reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and speeding.
