NICEVILLE — The largest new development in the Twin Cities area is one step closer to breaking ground on its first phase of homes.

Ruckel Properties has approved nine builders to be members of the Deer Moss Creek Builder’s Guild — the only companies allowed to construct homes in the 1,087-acre residential/commercial development near the Rocky Bayou community. The builders are Tidwell Homes, Randy Wise Homes, BetterBuilt of NWF Inc., Ferrin Campbell Construction, Toolan Development, J&V Builders, Key Lime Construction LLC, Greg Goodwin Construction Inc. and Huff Homes.

According to Kelly Murphy-Redd, a spokeswoman for the Ruckel Properties, the project’s developer, all of the Builder’s Guild members are local builders who have undergone a rigorous application and review process with Deer Moss Creek’s Town Architect, Hernandez Calhoun Design International. Some of the contractors will build spec homes, some will build spec and custom or semi-custom homes, while others will build only custom designs.

Murphy-Redd said interest in the new community is high.

“We’ve already had more than 100 inquiries about it,” she said.

The approved builders are currently working on designs for the development’s first residential stage, which will be called Hartfield. The neighborhood is expected to have 98 single-family homes.

Work on the development’s infrastructure is already underway.

“We expect to begin construction on the first homes in the late summer,” Murphy-Redd added.

In addition to the residential neighborhoods, Deer Moss Creek will include a “village center” that will feature shops, restaurants and entertainment. Ruckel Properties also hopes to include a commercial area that may include a hotel, gas stations, a grocery store and other businesses.

The community is being built on the only privately owned tract of land that borders Walter Spence Parkway, the connector road for the Mid-Bay Bridge. The developer plans to incorporate green space and parks in the community’s master plan.
