NAVARRE BEACH — Ten swimmers were pulled in from the Gulf of Mexico Sunday afternoon.
Navarre Beach Fire Department and lifeguards had back-to-back calls Sunday around 4 p.m., said Captain Danny Fureigh of NBFD.
“There were two separate groups of five people in unprotected waters,” he said. “They were in the west part of the beach about a quarter of a mile away from each other.”
A guest at a nearby condo made the call to lifeguards. All swimmers were rescued with no injuries. Fureigh said the swimmers were from out of town.
The flags Sunday were red and purple. Fureigh said it’s not advisable to swim in those waters.
“If you get caught in a rip current, don’t panic,” he said. “Let it take you out and swim back. And be educated about the flag system.”
