SHALIMAR — Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies are searching for a male suspect who allegedly fired a handgun in the 11th Street and 3rd Avenue vicinity of Shalimar this afternoon.

OCSO Lt. Sean Lynch said the first report of the shots fired came in at 2:25 p.m. He said deputies did not believe anyone had been injured, but a vehicle sustained damage with what was believed to have been a firearm. Lynch said nobody was in the vehicle at the time it was shot.

Bystanders gave a vague description of the suspect, who may be armed. OCSO deputies are actively searching for anyone who might match the suspect’s description. Authorities did not provide a description of the suspect other than that he is a black male.

Lynch said area residents do not need to be alarmed because the situation is “contained.”

Deputies are still processing the scene and gathering evidence.
