Ferry Park restoration stalled by insurance delay

staff reports

The City of Fort Walton Beach has continued clean-up efforts at Ferry Park, but can’t repair the ball field until they get confirmation from their insurance company of payment.

Two weeks ago, Recreation Director Jeff Peters told the Daily News he expected to hear from the insurer within the week. Monday, city officials said they didn’t know why it was delayed but that they had been in regular communication with the company.

All debris has been removed from the parking lot across from Elliott Point Elementary, according to city officials.

A confirmed tornado tore through the park June 21, twisting bleachers, destroying a dugout and knocking down more than a dozen trees.

Volunteers gathered at the park June 26 to help city workers begin the clean-up and restoration efforts that have temporarily stalled.
