Staff report

Four kids between the ages of 7 to 14 are hospitalized in serious condition following a fiery crash that is expected to result in multiple charges against their father.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, Jeffery Scott Touzet, 47, of Pensacola, was traveling north on Perdido Key Drive in Escambia County at the time of the 10:30 p.m. crash Friday.

FHP noted in the release that as Touzet entered the left turn lane on Perdido Key Drive and turned right onto Gulf Beach Highway, he ran his 2013 Hyundai Sonata off the road, crashing into a traffic control pole. At that point, the Sonata burst into flames.

Touzet and his four children — Irielle, 14; Daniel, 9; Bethany, 7; and Raeliana, 12 — were able to escape the vehicle and were all transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. FHP stated in the release that all five remain listed in serious condition.

FHP also reported that witnesses to the crash stated to troopers at the scene that Touzet was driving erratically and at a high rate of speed, passing cars on the bridge in a no passing zone.

Touzet was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Charges for DUI, DUI with serious bodily injury, DUI with minors in the car under 18 years of age and child neglect are pending the results of a warrant blood draw.
