The snowbird season wouldn’t be complete without the music of Jabbo and Krissa, a favorite twosome who perform every year to standing-room-only crowds. Last Tuesday, the entertainers had a special surprise for their fans. Krissa’s husband, Mark Gillespie, a gifted professional musician (he played guitar for country superstar Trace Adkins for 15 years) joined them on stage to make the duo a trio. They put on a show that would be hard for any musician to follow. Fortunately for the snowbirds, next Tuesday’s entertainer isn’t just any musician, it’s Todd Herendeen.

Todd offers a variety of music including gospel, country and rock-and-roll. He has an unbelievable talent for bringing to life such legends as Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and Elvis. You will want to get to the roost in plenty of time to get a good seat for this show.

The Destin Snowbirds meet every Tuesday at the Roost for entertainment, information and door prizes. But apparently for some, that’s not enough. Rumor has it that many are also meeting at their respective churches and condominiums. Jan Lanaville is a registered Destin snowbird who likes to assemble her fellow snowbirds that live in the Majestic Sun where she resides. Last Thursday, she planned a manicure and pedicure spa excursion at the Luxe Nail Bar on U.S. 98 for a group of 13 Majestic Sun snowbirds.

One activity that has been around since the very first Destin snowbird meeting back in the 1970s is card playing. Snowbirds can sign up or, in some cases, just show up for an afternoon or evening of cards. A few, like Adam and Ruth Ohol of New York, play one game in the afternoon and another in the evening of the same day. They call Thursdays their “cards day.” Contact information is on the Activity sheets that were handed out at registration and on the website at www.destinsnowbirds.org.

Last week, I reminded everyone that open bowling was now available to snowbirds at Uncle Buck’s. However, I misstated the time. Non-league bowling is available on Wednesdays from 3 to 8 p.m. not 3 to 9 p.m. The discount mentioned was correct however, an hour of bowling for the half-hour rate.

Reminders: The Singles Friendship club will meet after the 11 a.m. meeting Tuesday at O’Quigley’s. The first Harbor Party cruise will be Monday, January 29. The Southern Star Party Boat will depart from the harbor at 3:30 and return at 5:30 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by a snowbird favorite, David Hall.

The only things flying faster than the days of January are the ticket sales for our special events. The New Orleans Mardi Gras Trip, Caribbean Cruise and Valentine’s Dinner Dance tickets are sold out. There are a limited number of tickets left for the Fashion Show, and tickets are still available for the Soundsations Benefit Concert, The Snowbird Cup golf tournament, Ladies Scrambles and the next two Harbor party boat cruises. You can find more information at the website (destinsnowbirds.org). Better yet, stop by the Community Center on Tuesday, you’re going to like what you’ll see.
