SANTA ROSA BEACH — A 31-year-old Santa Rosa Beach man is behind bars after trying to solicit sex from someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl but was really an undercover investigator.

Brendon Joseph Kelly responded to a Craigslist ad that appeared to be a girl looking for “summer fun” while school was out. Kelly messaged the person behind the ad, the investigator posting as a 13-year-old girl, on July 10.

“Hey baby hit me up, I can help u have fun for the summer,” he wrote.

As the conversation progressed, Kelly asked the girl how old she was. When she told him she was 13, he said, “13???” and “that’s kinda sketxhy.”

Kelly asked the girl for pictures of herself. The investigator sent him undercover photos. Kelly then sent the girl a picture of himself laying on a bed with erect genitals and asked her to send him a naked picture of herself multiple times. She repeatedly refused.

After the investigator wrote, “most guys freak out when I tell them I’m 13,” Kelly responded, “as long as your cool i guess its cool.”

Kelly asked when the girl’s mom was home and tried to convince her to have phone sex with him. On July 12, Kelly told the girl he could get her out of her house and then asked for a naked picture. He then asked the girl if she wanted to have sex, and suggested they do it in her house before her mom came home or in his truck.

He told the girl he would “go slow” and teach her how to perform various sexual acts so that she would be ready for a boyfriend or husband one day.

Investigators contacted Kelly on July 13 and he admitted to having a conversation with someone he thought was a 13-year-old female, but denied having the intent to meet with her for sexual activities. He admitted to sending the picture of his genitals.

Kelly was charged with one count of using a computer to seduce, solicit or lure a child, one count of distribution of obscene material and one count of using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.

He is currently being held in the Walton County Jail on $100,000 bond.
